Maplewood Nature Center & Preserves

Maplewood Nature Center

Under a reorganization plan, Parks and Recreation and the Nature Center have transitioned into the Parks and Natural Resources Department, which is now located in the Nature Center building.  The reorganization has allowed the City to reopen the facility during the week for use of indoor restrooms and common lobby area.  Additionally, the department has resumed occasional on-site educational programming. Community outreach events will resume citywide this spring and summer.

The reorganized department will oversee parks and open space operations and maintenance. It will also carry out the City’s environmental planning, climate mitigation and adaption mission, and pursuit of wildlife and natural resources protection and education.

Neighborhood Preserves

In a busy metropolitan area, a place to connect with nature close to home is vital. Visit the Maplewood Nature Center and Preserves and you can’t help but want to join us in our mission to promote and support the management of these precious natural areas. Historical Landscapes

Few people in Maplewood have experienced an oak woodland, oak savanna, or wet prairie. Yet these are the historical landscapes of our city. Maplewood is committed to restoring the preserves to native vegetation for residents to enjoy. Preserve Policy Statement (PDF) https://maplewoodmn.gov/984/Neighborhood-Preserves
